8-Day Winter Wonder Land: Khuvsgul & Tsaatan Expedition

Day 1 – Arrival in Murun & Tultiin Tohoi River Camp

Arrive in Murun in the late afternoon. After landing, enjoy a scenic drive to Tultiin Tohoi River Camp. Along the way, make a short detour to visit the Uushgiin Uvur Deer Stone Monument, a Bronze Age site renowned for its magnificent stone carvings that reflect the mastery and spiritual beliefs of ancient nomadic warriors.

Arrive at camp and enjoy a warm, delicious dinner surrounded by pristine winter landscapes.

Day 2 – Journey into the Darkhad Depression

Today is a full travel day as we venture deeper into northern Mongolia. Enjoy a long but spectacular drive through the remote Darkhad Khotgor (Darkhad Depression), one of Mongolia’s most isolated and scenic regions.

Arrive at Jargant Lodge, a cozy pinewood log lodge set in the wilderness. This will be your comfortable base for the next five nights.

Day 3 – Tsaatan (Reindeer Herder) Experience

After breakfast, take a short drive into the taiga forest to visit the Tsaatan tribe. Spend the day discovering their unique lifestyle, interacting with local families, learning about reindeer herding traditions, and sharing a traditional lunch inside their teepee (ortz).

You will have the opportunity to help with daily chores and even try riding a reindeer, a truly rare cultural experience. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day 4 – Hiking the Khoridol Saridag Mountains

Today is dedicated to exploration on foot. Hike through the dramatic winter landscapes of the Khoridol Saridag Mountain Range, known for its rugged peaks and untouched beauty.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness and discover frozen rivers, taiga forests, and breathtaking viewpoints before returning to the lodge for a hearty dinner and warmth.

Day 5 – The Unfrozen Jargant River

Visit the famous Jargant River, known for remaining partially unfrozen and surprisingly green even in the depths of winter. The scenery feels like a real-life fairy tale, with steam rising from the water amid snow-covered surroundings.

Return to the lodge in the afternoon and enjoy the peaceful wilderness atmosphere.

Day 6 – Leisure Day in the Wilderness

Today is a relaxed day. Visit a nearby nomadic family not far from the lodge, meet authentic herders, and learn about their daily lifestyle. Join them for a cooking lesson to make traditional dumplings, enjoy horseback riding in the area, and end the day relaxing by the fire at the lodge.

Day 7 – Drive to Frozen Lake Khuvsgul

Check out Jargant Lodge and begin a scenic drive south, crossing the breathtaking Jiglig Saddle. By lunchtime, arrive at the legendary frozen Lake Khuvsgul, often called the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.”

Check in at Toilogt Resort and enjoy the magical atmosphere of the frozen lake at sunset.

Day 8 – Return to Murun & Fly to Ulaanbaatar

After breakfast, drive back to Murun, the regional hub of Northern Mongolia. Visit the local market and museum before enjoying a farewell lunch at the well-known 50/100 Restaurant.

Transfer to Murun Airport and fly back to Ulaanbaatar, marking the end of this extraordinary winter adventure.
